Perfectly epic

I'm halfway through my first listen, but I couldn't wait to talk about it. I'm re-reading tWoK and WoR before I let myself touch Oathbringer, and so the events the music references are fresh in my mind, and with every single moment so far, I've thought, "Oh, yes, that's the right sound for that scene." There's an impressive variety of tone in the different tracks, and it all comes together in a way that I can only think to call 'epic.'

So, yeah, I'm a fan, and I couldn't be happier that I backed this album. This team is the real deal. This music will be seeing me through many a writing session of my own.

Awesome! Which songs or styles have really moved you so far?

I absolutely loved the mournful choir of Oathpact Abandoned (nicely juxtaposed with the bombast of the drums and strings). It's a super-strong start to the album. I was also pleasantly surprised by the whimsy and bounce of The King's Wit.

Cool! Sandy does such beautiful work with choir!

I wasn't sure how TKW would turn out, but I thought the group just did amazing! That flautist!

  • It's been nearly 10 months since I first got my hands on "Kaladin," and It's still as vibrant as ever! Not only is it the soundtrack for "The Way of Kings," but it's also a great soundtrack to my D&D campaigns! My new favorites are "Alethi Codes of War" and "Hearthstone (Tien's Theme)." In fact, my only wish is that Codes of War was longer! Great work, Pipers. If you're looking for additional inspiration, can I recommend The Saga of Seven Suns by Kevin J. Anderson?
  • SO. SO. SO. SO. SO. MUCH!!!!!! I am SO impressed by the composers and musicians and everyone who brought this project together. Listening to the album over and over again makes me SO HAPPY. (I cannot express my joy and appreciation enough. If it didn't feel socially inappropriate this review would be in all caps with an excessive amount of exclamation marks.) These tracks have REALLY stood out to me so far (amid an entire album of incredible music): 1. Oathpact Abandoned - SUCH AN EPIC START TO THE ALBUM. IT'S PERFECT. 2. Assassin in White - PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT for that whole chapter. SO GOOD. I love the drums and the more electric-sounding components - it somehow really captures the feeling of Szeth and the entire fight. 9. The Blackthorn - one of my favorite tracks. It's so epic and the low brass playing the Knight's Radiant theme the first time just gives me CHILLS. I've been listening to it nonstop on repeat. <3 <3 <3 10. Alethi Codes of War - love love love love the melody / all the instrumental lines weaving in and out. Also one of my favorite pieces!!! 11. King's Wit - YOU CAPTURED HIM SO WELL!!!!!!!! The flutist is INCREDIBLE. This track makes me so happy/giggly. 12. You're in my Spot - also perfect. I have no words for how much I love this track. The emotions and the highs and lows and just... everything. You can picture the entire scene along with the music SO WELL. 13-16. Chasm Kata, Unite Them, Bridge Four Shield, and Highstorm - such amazing and epic pieces that fit their sections of the book SO WELL. I CAN'T SAY IT ENOUGH. THE MUSIC IS SO PERFECT. I love the fiddle/violen in Kata, the epic dynamics in Shield and Highstorm; the differently-pace and lovely epicness of Unite Them... so good. 25. Tien - one of my favorite pieces, it absolutely breaks my heart every time I listen to it. The string melody and brass accompaniment/complement hit those emotional notes SO HARD, and especially the brief pause before the epic climactic section... UGHHHH I HAVE CHILLS. IT BREAKS MY HEART IN MANY MANY PIECES (which means you did good) 28. Warrior - I LOVE IT! Reminds me of the band "Within Temptation," whom I love, so I'll have to check this group out. :D 29. Shallan's Lullaby - ALSO PERFECT. SO SAD AND BEAUTIFUL AND HORRIFYINGLY TRAGIC AT THE END. I'm so glad you included this one!! I am curious, though - is the "Rhythm of Mourning" track a reference to the Parshendi? (I'm mildly confused because we didn't actually get a Parshendi perspective until Words of Radiance. Not that I have any issues with crossing over.) <3 Like I said... can't say it enough. This is my new favorite soundtrack. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
  • I'm currently rereading the way of kings with your musics, and it's epic ! My favorite songs from the album are Warrior, Thath and Wandersail. Hope you guys will do an 2nd album for words of radiance :)
